How many famous women would you say you know from the ancient times? You could probably count them on the fingers on one of your hands.
It isn’t an accusation, nor is it an attempt to make you ignorant; it’s just painstaking reality of how little we know of women from the ancient times and beyond. History cares little for the success of women, and it’s usually the men who get all the attention. It’s a terrible reality that will take us forever to rectify.
Marie Curie, one of the greatest female scientists of all time once said: “Humanity needs practical men, who get the most out of their work, and, without forgetting the general good, safeguard their own interests. But humanity also needs dreamers, for whom the disinterested development of an enterprise is so captivating that it becomes impossible for them to devote their care to their own material profit.”
It is a long quote but arguably one of her greatest. She described what scientists need to be and how important it is for humanity to have scientists – the dreamers.
With an extensive opus of writings and long-time work as a feminist and philosopher, Simone de Beauvoir is considered as one of the greatest existentialist philosophers. Besides that, she worked with a lot of other immensely prominent names, including her lover Jean-Paul Sartre, then Albert Camus, and Maurice Merleau-Ponty.
She created plenty of writings, including those on feminism, ethics, and politics, but she also wrote fiction.
Most of us, if not all of us know about Oprah Winfrey. She is one of the richest women on the planet and one of the most influential celebrities. She was at one point, the only black billionaire in the world. Her show is one of the longest running and most successful shows ever and has inspired a whole new genre of talk shows around the globe.
Need we go on?
But how did she achieve all of this? One could argue that she made it here by asking questions, which is why we believe that the power of asking questions is truly a great one. Through questions and subsequent raising awareness of relevant issues in the world, you can bring about a positive change. You can bring lasting happiness for a great many humans across the globe – as Oprah did.
The most excellent power every writer has is to move masses through their words. Think about it, a writer is a man or a woman who’s not in close contact with their vast audience, and yet they have the power to influence their lives by writing down what they imagine.
Many writers have managed to do a lot with their texts and their books, and arguably one of the most influential writers of the modern age is J.K. Rowling.
Yes, she earned a lot of money and popularity with her stories, and yes the magical world she created has become a massive part of modern pop culture, but there’s more to it than that.
We all can agree that Mahatma Gandhi is one of the most exceptional human beings who has ever lived. His fight for freedom in the most nonviolent way imaginable is the stuff of legends, and deservingly so.
His actions have been studied for a long time and are essential knowledge we all should know. The man managed to free an entire country by relying on peace and truth only. He didn’t have to start a war, and he didn’t have to kill India’s oppressors.
Gandhi’s methods have inspired other prominent names of the 20th century like Martin Luther King Jr and James Bevel.
One of the greatest scientists of all time was the renowned physicist Albert Einstein. He brought us the theory of relativity, the famous formula E = mc2 which every person, from the age of ten to 110 knows.
He brought us into quantum mechanics as well. He laid that foundation on which the downright bizarre quantum mechanics was born. He couldn’t find a way to ‘finish’ quantum mechanics, but he knew that it was correct, and he knew that it could explain everything. As he said: “I have no special talents. I am only passionately curious.” a quote that might explain why he never ceased to work and discover.
Everyone at all interested in psychology has heard of Carl Jung – that’s how widely influential his teachings and views are. Modern psychology can hardly exist without Carl Jung.
But have you heard about his teachings on the unconscious mind? His concept of collective unconsciousness and its power?
If you haven’t, you are in the right place. We wanted to talk about this and how important this concept can be for all future leaders who want to change the world for the better and bring about happiness for everyone.
The system of education we have today is filled with flaws, and it’s about time we did something to create a positive change, no matter how small or large. We need to do everything we can to create a better system for our children and all the youth of the world of tomorrow.
We want to make the people across the globe happy, and we need to do it from an early age. The problem with mainstream education today is that it doesn’t consider happiness, and it doesn’t recognize the child’s spiritual, moral, and creative side.
There are plenty of systems that want to change this, but Rudolf Steiner is the one who envisioned a unique system that genuinely incorporates the entire being, almost a full century ago.
If we are to spread happiness throughout the world through efficient practices like mindfulness and compassion, we need to include the children as well.
That’s precisely where Thich Nhat Hanh is coming from. He has dedicated his life to making mindfulness more approachable to children. Our children are the most valuable treasure we have on this planet, and we need to make sure that their future is bright and that they are all happy now and later in life.
No one looking to live life in perfect harmony with themselves and happiness can omit the teachings of Taoism. It doesn’t matter if you’re religious or not; the lessons of Taoism can help you in many ways. They mostly are talked about in Tao Te Ching; likely the most excellent book ever written.
The legend says that it was written by Laozi or Lao Tzu as most people around the world know him. This ancient Chinese philosopher is as mythical and influential as Homer is in the West and equally a legend.
The Dalai Lama – we all know him and would love to learn from him. At least that’s something that all of us interested in world happiness can say.
To be genuinely compassionate, happy, and a leader who will impart this knowledge and traits onto others, you need to learn from the greatest scholars and enlightened people in the world. There is no better than the Dalai Lama at that.
The world we live in is a world filled with problems that need fixing. There’s a lot of inequality, violence, and unhappiness. However, we should add that there is still a lot of happiness in it as well as prosperity.
The problem lies in the fact that there are all of these numerous conditions for a better, happier, more prosperous world, but we lack the consciousness needed to mold such a world fully.
Many of us have the potential to be the leaders who will change the world for the better. What we lack is pure self-awareness. That’s what Jaggi Vasudev, better known as Sadhguru, wants to teach us. His Isha Foundation was created to provide that heightened self-awareness that we all need to make a difference in the world.
During the next World Happiness Agora in March 2020, we will have five days to talk about our future. Each day will have its own topic, but each of those will have something to do with happiness.
Why? Because happiness is something, we all need to uphold. It’s something that every human being on this planet deserve, and we all as the leaders of today and tomorrow have to work together to make this dream a reality.
The World Happiness Agora is one way we believe will get people to think and entice them to action.
Self-awareness, self-knowledge, introspection – however you want to call it, is a crucial aspect of each of us and our lives.
It’s about finding out who we are and becoming truly self-aware as individuals. It’s about understanding our needs, failings, desires, our habits, and all the other things that make us who we are, that make us unique in this endless universe.
There’s no one else out there like you, and you are the only one who can honestly know yourself. But self-awareness is crucial for a wide range of reasons – it can enable us to be better, improve ourselves, build specific aspects of ourselves, but most importantly – it can help us improve our overall well-being. That will, in turn, lead us towards a happier and fulfilled life.
There are plenty of ways in which many leaders among us try to improve happiness on a broader level. But only through tech can we truly revolutionize this effort, and that’s precisely what transformative technologies are trying to achieve.
In this article, we’ll explain what these are and how they are transforming the world and increasing happiness.
Many don’t even consider that happiness can influence their health, but the reality is much different, and science is starting to prove it.
We are going to show you that happiness and health are very closely connected and that happiness truly matters in life, for more reasons than many believe. After that, we know that you’ll dare to imagine a world where all seven or so billion people are happy in their lives, just as we are imagining it and working towards turning this dream into a reality.
It stands to reason that happiness in the workplace can increase productivity. Although, it’s not something that most companies care for, and it’s certainly not a norm to which all business strive.
Happiness is simply ignored. The emphasis has always been on money and revenue. Everyone in a company needs to strive for making more money, and if they become miserable and stressed in the process – it doesn’t matter, as long as the money is coming in.
However, this bleak outlook is not necessarily going to be a norm for much longer. Many modern businesses and startups place a lot more value on happiness among the workforce, and we’ll tell you why in this article and how every company can benefit from such a strategy.
The future of education is here! At least it will be if we all strive to make our students happy. Happiness should be the foundation on which we build the culture of tomorrow.
In this article we’ll talk precisely about that, and how positive education can bring about a change that will make sure our future is bright and better for all of humanity – starting from our schools where our youngest start to form into the people who will lead us tomorrow.
Any national government that attempts to move from simple well-being measurements to actual policy applications that will deal with increasing well-being will face many challenges.
Many initiatives in the 2019 Global Happiness and Wellbeing Policy Report face these challenges head-on, by bringing well-being monitoring closer to policymakers. They do this by producing shorter and more communicative dashboards of indicators, which are also timed to go in line with strategic decisions.
It is an essential first step as it can raise awareness and shape public dialogue. However, it mostly remains in the domain of measurement.
People place considerable emphasis on the feeling of happiness, and it can thus serve as a significant motive for decisions in education, travel, recreation, profession, health, and charity.
This impulse we all have that makes us seek a happier and more rewarding life echoes in the role of government. Many of the areas of life governments look to improve have arisen because they influence our overall happiness and well-being.
The well-being of employees is confident in itself, but most employers want to know if there are any benefits connected to it – benefits that will serve the employees’ productivity and the performance of the firm.
All of this is due to the apparent fact that improving the well-being of employees is a resource-intensive affair.
Healthcare already works for the betterment of humankind; its goal is to improve and extend the lives of all humans. However, the problem in healthcare today lies significantly in the way it uses the resources it has available.
Both the amount of resources and how they are used is essential.
Creating happiness in communities and entire nations is not an easy thing to achieve, but by using specific ways that will carefully work to alter policies, countries can undoubtedly open the doors to happiness.
It takes us through several ‘how to’ lessons or stages that discuss successful happiness policies. Let’s take a better look into each one, as all of them combined will help us find out the secrets to opening the doors to happiness.
We all have vastly different experiences of the world. It comes from the diversity among us. Everyone experiences everything distinctly due to their unique selves, their views, skills, and a lot more.
Sometimes these differences can even reach some extremes like, for example, people who have facial dysmorphia. Their entire view of the world is different because of their condition through which they have a warped perception of their face. What these people see is next to unimaginable for people without the disorder.
Wearables have been on the market for quite some time and have shown to be of great use in many ways. The technology behind them is continually improved, and we will probably get to a point where a wearable will have specific transformative powers.
However, we are here today to discuss a wearable that has come the closest to making exact transformative change for the person wearing it – the Oura ring, a wearable designed to help you improve your sleep and sleeping habits, as well as improve your overall psychological well being.
