Germany

In general, Germans are more satisfied with their lives than the OECD average. When asked to rate their general satisfaction with life on a scale from 0 to 10, Germans gave it a 7.0 grade on average, higher than the OECD average of 6.5. In terms of health, life expectancy at birth in Germany is 81 years, one year higher than the OECD average of 80 years. Life expectancy for women is 83 years, compared with 78 for men.

Düsseldorf

Düsseldorf impresses with boundary-pushing architecture, zinging nightlife and an art scene to rival many higher-profile cities. It’s a posh and modern city that seems all buttoned-up business at first glance: banking, advertising, fashion and telecommunications are among the fields that have made North Rhine–Westphalia's capital one of Germany’s wealthiest cities. Yet all it takes is a few hours of bar-hopping around the Altstadt (the historical quarter along the Rhine) to realise that locals have no problem letting their hair down once they shed those Armani jackets.

The Altstadt claims fame as the ‘longest bar in the world’ but some focus has moved to Medienhafen, a redeveloped harbour area home to international avant-garde architecture. Older neighbourhoods are also evolving, including the now-hip Flingern and the vibrantly creative Unterbilk, especially along Lorettostrasse. And the new underground Wehrhahn line's six stations are an eye-catching blend of architecture, design and art.

Traveling is a key enable of happiness, enjoy Düsseldorf:

Are Germans happy?

That is what we will explore on Saturday, March 23rd in Düsseldorf.

Some think sausages and beer are the secret sauce to happiness. What might surprise you: The charm and culture of many German cities goes beyond festivities and food. Mercers global ‘Quality of Living’ Survey of 231 cities worldwide ranks 3 German cities in the top 10 based on evaluating 39 factors including political, economic, environmental, health, and educational aspects. Düsseldorf ranks 6th place.

In this beautiful city the first German Happiness Agora will take place to unite advocates of happiness at work and in society.

Düsseldorf has a variety of happiness boosters to offer. But what is truly the key to happiness?

Let’s find out on March 23rd when we start the discussion and ignite the topic of ‘Happiness@Work’. What does it mean and what can leaders and employees do to increase happiness in the workplace?

We will have various expert speakers, enriching discussions and the chance for networking with a like-minded community.

Join us Saturday, March 23rd from 10am to 1pm at the beautiful facilities of Havas to join the German Happiness Agora.

It’s for you if you are a professional who is driven by creating a happier, healthier, more enriching workplace or want to learn more about being happy at work.

Saturday? Yes, and sure, bring your kids if they are self-organized and love to paint.

We are looking forward to igniting Happiness@Work with you,

Eve, Lisa, DJ & Tobias
